Young Women United is inclusive of women of color of all sexual orientations. We stand in solidarity with the struggle for equality for the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, Gender-Non Conforming, intersexed and questioning community.
YWU has a presence at every Albuquerque’s Gay Pride to create awareness to issues effecting Women of Color, Promote YWU, and celebrate in the Spirit of Human Diversity.
In 2010 YWU marched in the Gay Pride Parade for the first time. “Love Makes a Family” was the theme of our float to challenge the idea of the nuclear family model and show support for families of all shapes, sizes, and makes. We had such a fun time, we wondered why we waited until 2010 to enter the parade. We plan to continue to march in future Pride Parades, and hope that our next presence with be bigger and better. Join us next year and make it happen. To get on our Pride planning committee contact Elizabeth Silva at esilva@youngwomenunited.org .
