Centered in the Spirit!In doing our Anti-Violence Against Women work, YWU realized a tremendous need for practices that help us heal and take care of our selves and communities when talking about such harsh and tramatic realities in our lives and the lives of those we love. In the Summer 2008 YWU hosted its first Real Revolution has Spirit Summer Institute (RRHS). Together we built a community altar, made incense, did a writing/poetry workshop, did yoga and had a group dialouge about spirituality, healing pracitices, and ways in which we heal, ground our selves in best intentions, and survive. RRHS was born out of the fact that many successful social movements have had their base in Spirit. Since our first RRHS, YWU has worked to incorporate spirit or as many have termed, "Transformative Justice" into all our work. Thanks to support from Hispanics In Philanthropy we were able to work closely with Movement Strategy Center on developing organizational practices that are grounded in the spirit, guide with best intentions and acknowledge the health and healing aspects of the organizing work we are doing. Please see our SET (Sister Education Training) program for future events and activities that YWU is doing to incorporate Spirituality, Health and Healing pracitices in and for our communities.
