Sister Fire's roots started in 2004 with a National Cultural Arts Tour of Radical Women of Color Artists and Activists, generated by INCITE! Women Of Color Against Violence, National Collective. YWU jumped on the tour stop, held a fabulous event with INCITE!'s support and we have held a YWU Sister Fire every year since!

Sister Fire has become a Young Women United annual event, uniquely being one of the only intentionally, all Women of Color performing arts events in Albuquerque. Providing a venue for new and veteran performance artists.

Over the past six years, Young Women United has seen how important it is to host this event and bring out the issues we see affecting our communities. Themes that we have focued our awareness efforts on have included; Access to Responsible Sexuality Education, Anti-Violence against Women, Access to Health care, Birthing Stories and Birthing Options.

In addition to the performing arts YWU holds a fantastic silent auction which includes art, jewlery and various donations from local artists, community members and local businesses.

We hope you will join us for this year’s event that is sure to be a fierce and powerful experience for persons of all ages, communities and backgrounds.
