Revolutionary Mamas
“ We are Mamas of Color, together creating a vision of how we want birthing, parenting and caretaking to be in a more just and loving world.” YWU works with Mamas of Color Rising, INCITE!, and individual Mamas of Color to build a collective of Revolutionary Mamas.

Anti-Violence Against Women Campaign
YWU members engage in an Issue Identification process and take on Anti-Violence against Women as our intergenerational campaign.

Anti-Rape Sticker Drop
YWU members drop anti-rape stickers in an effort to create awareness for our campaign. December 2008. In memory of our Sister Amber Archibeque, YWU and Kalpulli Izkalli start holding monthly vigils to link issues of Sexual Violence, substance use and incarceration.

Real Revolution has Spirit
Summer 2008. We used our summer training institute to begin including spirituality in our work and collective intentions. We built a community alter, made incense and shared spiritual grounding practices.

Promotora Apprenticeship
We recognize that spirit has been stripped away from us and we must reclaim and take back our rights as human beings to heal ourselves and our communities. Kalpulli Izkalli and YWU joined forces to build an Apprenticeship Program that expands the collective of Promotoras Tradicionales, who promote and practice traditional medicine and Promotoras del Parto Natural, also known as birth companions.

New Staff
April 2008. Dominique Pierson joins the YWU staff as the Communications and Office Coordinator.

Panocha Love
March 2008. YWU Board member Monie Trujillo introduces the Panocha Pláticas to YWU, monthly chats about all topics related to women’s sexuality.

West Mesa Women Honored at Vigils
February 2009. Eleven women found in a mass grave on the West Mesa. We see the links between these women’s lives and our anti-violence campaign. Along with their families and other community organizations and members we collaborate in efforts to honor their lives at our monthly vigils.

Join the Revolution Workshop Series
A yearlong workshop series designed to broaden the political knowledge and collective analysis of the YWU membership and to recruit other young women of color.

Changes in Organizational Structure
Andrea Garza moves on to focus on her family, and Avicra Luckey, COS member for seven years, takes over as COS’s Community Organizer. Micaela Cadena joins the YWU staff as Program Coordinator. YWU adopts new organizational structure and Adrian Barboa is named the Director of YWU.
