YWU Structure

Roles and Responsibilities

Membership
The role of YWU members is to identify community issues that impact young women of color and our families and organize for solutions that improve the quality of life for young women of color.  YWU members take leadership roles in carrying out decisions made collectively by the entire membership and shape YWU program and issue campaign priorities. Members fundraise for the organization and play an active role in recruiting other members to YWU.

Board
The role of the Board is to ensure that YWU stays true to its mission.  The Board represents the membership in programmatic decisions, fiduciary (financial and fundraising) responsibilities and represents YWU in the community.  Board members are developed through the membership, with two seats available for non members but with limited voting power.  Board leads an annual evaluation process for the Director of the organization to ensure there is a balance of power throughout the organization.
Board members often lead programs, which we see as the most valued role a Board member can play, increasing the capacity of the organization, the leadership of young women of color and boosting our organizing efforts.
